Character Identity Revealed?
Disclaimer: I personally don't consider this type of information to a spoiler, but I know many define this term differently, so if you're concerned with such a thing, bail now.
Marvel is notoriously secretive when it comes to information regarding their films. Spider-Man: Homecoming is certainly no exception and may even be the most heavily guarded yet. Fortunately, and surprisingly, I've been privy to some information pertaining to a handful of actors being cast and who some actors are portraying. You can catch up those here and here. Information has dried up fast but there's one other small bit of information I have to relay. I've mentioned many times that the cast seems chock full of classic Spider-Man characters, and that continues to be the case.
The latest character that I've learned will appear in the film is Betty Brant. Elizabeth "Betty" Brant, as I'm sure many of you know, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (1963). Brant worked at the Daily Bugle and was a love interest of Peter Parker's for some time but eventually married Ned Leeds. Brant was first bought to life in Raimi's Spider-Man (2002).
Who is playing Brant? I've learned this also, but I'm keeping that under wraps for now. I have some concerns about the accuracy of some of this info for the reasons stated below. All I'll say is the name linked to the character is already a known cast member.
There's a lot of mystery surrounding many of the cast members and their respective characters. The odds of misinformation runs high. It's going to be fascinating to see how this all shakes out. To be clear, I have a high degree of confidence in the info I've shared, or I wouldn't have published it. However, it's important to remain cautious, optimistically cautious, but still cautious.
This film possess an enormous cast and character list. It's also important to remember that what is written, and even filmed, doesn't always make it into the final product. Some characters are even cut altogether. A prime example of this, a Spider-Man related one even, is how Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane was cut from 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The inclusion of Betty Brant is a welcomed addition. Spider-Man has a deep pool of wonderful Silver Age supporting characters. As far as I'm concerned, the more classic Spider-Man characters utilized is this MCU iteration of out favorite web-head, the better.
I'm as anxious as anyone to read an official release from Marvel detailing many (no doubt it won't cover all) of the characters in the film. Could such information be revealed during Marvel's H Hall panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con? Unknown, but wouldn't that be nice? Stay tuned.
