Marvel's H Hall Panel is Full of Surprises!
Marvel came prepared Saturday night and brought the house down with their H Hall Panel at San Diego Comic Con. They announced many things we expected, and not surprisingly, they dropped many surprises. Marvel debuted a new intro logo you can watch here. Keep reading and I'll deliver a concise recap!
Ryan Coogler and crew appeared and talked about how excited they are, and how much the project means to everyone involved. The Panel announced that Michael B. Jordan will be playing the villain, Erik Killmonger. Lupita Nyong'o will be playing Nakia, apparently, who is a member of the Dora Milaje. Danai Gurira was announced and that she'll be playing Okoye. Black Panther begins filming in January 2017 and is set to release February 18, 2018.
Thor: Ragnarok had a brief presence at the panel as well. They showed concepts and little bit of what they've been filming so far. We got a look at Hulk's gladiator armor early in the day as well, and Hela and Surtur were announced as being in the film.
Director Taika Waititi put together a short mockumentary to show what Thor was up to during Captain America: Civil War. Ragnarok has been filming for almost 3 weeks and releases November 3rd, 2017.
Doctor Strange surprised us with an appearance from Stephen Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch. The crowd was not only treated to a new trailer which was then released online but also also saw a clip of the film. The main cast appeared on stage and had an opportunity to talk briefly about their characters and excitement for the project.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson, is currently in post-production and will hit cinemas November 4th of this year.
They also debuted a new poster as seen below!
Tom Holland, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier and Zendaya made a surprise visit to the H Hall Panel. The cast was able to speak for a few minutes about their experience so far. Newcomer Jacob Batalon was especially excited to be there! It was great to see the young cast with enormous smiles plastered across their faces.
Marvel wowed the crowd with not only concept art but footage from the film that revealed the film's primary villain, the Vulture. No confirmation on the characters yet, but you can check the information I've learned here. (Update) Entertainment Weekly has reported the characters names of those that appeared at Marvel's Panel and it confirms the information I shared a few weeks ago that you can read here and here.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and swings into theaters July 7th, 2017.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2
James Gunn and the cast of Guardians made a huge splash Saturday night. Swarms of Ravagers in full costume ran through the crowd and onto the stage, taunting and mocking everyone in attendance. Chris Pratt and crew showed up as well and had a great time on stage with everyone and interacting with the audience.
Marvel exhibited a clip of the film which apparently showed Baby Groot helping Yondu and Rocket escape some Ravagers. The sequence was described as magical and wowed the crowd.
Sylvester Stallone was confirmed to appear in the film, and Kurt Russell was confirmed to be Ego, the living planet. Gunn's GotG Vol.2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
Marvel, to no surprise but to much expectation, announced that Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers. Larson is supremely talented, and we should see her appear first in Avengers 3, May 4th 2018. Her solo film will hit theaters March 8, 2019.
Marvel's future looks incredible and I can't wait for all that Phase 3 has in store.
