Identity Revealed Part 2
Over the last month, I've had the opportunity to share with you many of the characters and actors that'll be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Many of these articles have subsequently been reported and confirmed by the large trades a week or several weeks later.
An interesting characteristic shared by many of these characters is that their origins rest in the earliest of The Amazing Spider-Man comics. This continues to be the case with the latest character reveal I wrote about on July 18th, which you can read here. I learned that the classic Spidey character will be appearing in the film, and I've also learned who is playing the aforementioned character. I held that information back at the time, but now I'm prepared to move forward with it.
Disclaimer: If you consider this sort of information to be a spoiler, then I'd stop reading now!
In the article I mentioned above, I revealed that Elizabeth "Betty" Brant will be appearing in the film. Brant first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (1963) and has been a consistent supporting character for decades. Peter met Brant at Daily Bugle where she worked to help pay her brother's gambling debts. They dated some, but Brant eventually wound up with Ned Leeds (Ned is another name from the cast that should sound familiar), and they later married.
So who's playing Betty Brant? I've learned that Brant will be played by Angourie Rice. Rice is a very talented young actress that most recently appeared in The Nice Guys, for which she earned praise for her performance. Rice's addition to the film increases its cast's already rich list of who's who in the world of young, talented upcoming actors and actresses.
This is more good news and should increase confidence in an already quality cast. Spider-Man: Homecoming is being directed by Jon Watts and swings into theaters July 7th, 2017.
